The volunteers behind the sessions
Most of the people who ran this term's sessions have full-time jobs. We asked a few of them why they give up their Saturdays, and how you can join them.
A session looks like one morning. It is really two evenings of preparation, a driver who took a day of leave to do it, and somebody who spent most of a week on the phone to head teachers agreeing which year groups would be in the room and who would cover their lessons.
Most of our volunteers arrived through somebody they already knew, and stayed because they went back to the same school a second time. Nurses, midwives, teachers and students make up most of the roster. The skills we are shortest of are the least glamorous ones: people who can translate accurately under pressure, and people who can keep a spreadsheet honest.
If you have a Saturday, we can use it. Tell us what you can do and we will tell you honestly whether we need it this term, next term, or not at all.
